“Stewardship Sunday”

CCB – Feb. 27, 2011

Introduction:

A man was walking home from work one day. He was weary from a long day, and so he decided

to take a shortcut through a neighbor’s field, and that was a normal thing to do in those days,

people wouldn’t have been offended by that. As he was taking the shortcut through the field, all

of a sudden he got to a certain place and, when his walking stick hit the ground in that certain

place, there was kind of a hollow thud that happened underneath it. It was an unusual thing to

happen for this man, and so he thought, “I’m going to check and see what’s underneath it”. So

he went into the ground and he began to wipe away the dust, to clear away the dirt that was there,

to find what was underneath. He found first a wood plank and then, as he dug deeper, he found

what looked like a treasure chest. He pulled out the treasure chest and opened it up and inside he

had never seen anything like it before. It was full of gold and silver and jewels of every color.

He had never seen anything like that, unimaginable wealth! He thought quickly and he thought,

“If I take this right now that would be stealing.” So he put it back into the ground and he

covered it up again. Then an idea hit him. He got up from that place and instead of being

exhausted from a long days’ work, a skip started to enter into his stride. He began to think of

ways that he could possibly get that treasure legitimately. He thought, “If I buy the field then the

treasure would be mine.” The treasure wasn’t close to where anybody lived that he knew of, so

he figured the owner probably didn’t even know that it was there. He thought, “If I sell

everything maybe I can get it. Ok, if I do this . . . .if I sell my house . . .I’ll have to sell that for

sure. I’ll probably have to give up my prize pair of oxen. The iPod definitely has to go. The

children . . . .no, we’re going to keep the children.” He figured, “If I sell out on all of my

material goods then maybe, just maybe, I can have enough money to buy that field, and if I

bought the field then I would be able to have the treasure.”

A. This story about the treasure is actually a story that comes from the book of Matt 13:44

            1. So, if you’ve got your Bibles, go ahead and turn in there

2. And we are going to be looking at principles related to treasure

3. That God has for us, or that we can store up for ourselves in eternity

B. This morning. Matt 13:44 is a single verse parable which says this:

“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.”

E. He sold it “in his joy” because he realized, even if he sold everything that he had,

1. It would cost him everything,

2. But what it would gain him is so much more!

F. This is an unbelievable find, a find that would change his whole life

1. This is not a man in the parable that we’re thought of to pity,

2. Instead, this is a man who is to be envied

3. Because he scored the biggest score of his life

G. Was he smart to cash it all in for the treasure?

1. You bet he was, because with that treasure –

2. It would be so much better than life as it was normally

H. Today I’m going to be teaching on the subject of STEWARDSHIP

            1. Stewardship includes EVERY AREA of our lives

                        a. FINANCES

                        b. TIME

                        c. GIFTS & TALENTS and so on -

            2. And we are going to be looking at many different passages of Scripture

A. Jesus said,

“the kingdom of heaven is like this kind of treasure that’s hidden in a field. It’s worth selling out everything for.”

B. God owns everything and I am and everything that I have;

            1. I am merely His investor, or a manager, of HIS resources

C. Now, in church, often times, people are afraid to talk about money

1. Or they are uncomfortable with it for a variety of different reasons,

2. And understandably so

3. There have been many scandals around financial items

D. There has been discomfort among people talking about giving away their resources

1. Towards other causes

E. Money is one of those things that is measurable as well,

1. So you can go back and actually look at how well you’re doing in the giving category

2. For all these reasons it sometimes makes people feel uncomfortable

F. Who remembers that last time I preached a sermon on giving?

            1. I sure don’t

            2. In fact, I don’t know that I ever have, other than when it’s come up in our text

G. But this morning we’re going to talk about money, tithing & Stewardship for several reasons

#1. Christ taught on MONEY more than even HEAVEN or HELL

A. In the bible there are over 450 verses on FAITH

            1. Over 500 verses on PRAYER

            2. But over 2100 verses on GIVING

B. 1 in every 10 verses in the N.T. deals with:

            1. GIVING, MONEY, or POSSESSIONS

C. Of the 38 Parables Jesus taught:

            1. 16 deal directly with GIVING/MONEY/POSSESSIONS

D. Why was JESUS so emphatic about this?

            1. Because Jesus said –

Luke 12:34       For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

I. He wants us to GIVE to HIM;

            1. Not because He NEEDS our money;

            2. But because He wants our HEARTS

#2. I need to let you know how we are doing as a church financially

A. At CC we don’t normally talk about money;

            1. And if you are a visitor today, the regulars can avow to that

B. Generally, the only time I’m going to teach on money is when we come across the text;

            1. Yet, the Lord has put it upon my heart today to TEACH on GIVING

            2. We all need to be faithful & I need to bring you all up to date w/ where we’re at

C. Because of our FORM of CHURCH government;

            1. We don’t really have ‘BUSINESS MEETINGS’

            2. Rather we have a board of directors who meets QUARTERLY

                        a. And all 5 of us PRAYERFULLY CONSIDER how to budget God’s money

D. Now I have no idea who gives what, or if you give at all

            1. It’s NOT that our BOARD wont allow me to KNOW

            2. It’s that I CHOOSE NOT TO KNOW;

                        a. Because I don’t want to DEVELOP a CHIP on my shoulder towards those who

                           do NOT GIVE; nor do I want to develop FAVORITISM towards the GIVERS

            3. It’s all GOD’S DEAL

                        a. Either you FAITHFULLY TITHE unto the LORD

                        b. Or you are STEALING FROM HIM

E. Now you might say to me “Where does it say that in the bible?”

            1. GLAD YOU ASKED!

            2. The LORD Himself said in -

Malachi 3:8-10
“Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, ‘In what way have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings. 9 You are cursed with a curse, For you have robbed Me, Even this whole nation. 10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it.

*The nation of Israel had been w/holding their tithes and the result was:

            1. GOD’S HOUSE was in DISREPAIR while they homes TENDED to

            2. And the Priests could no longer afford to serve at the TEMPLE

            3. So they WENT BACK TO WORK – farming; agricultural industry

            4. And the WORK of God was NEGLECTED as the people fell away from the Lord

A. The Prophet Malachi had carried a rather severe message as he told the people of God that-

            1. They had GROWN LUKEWARM in their LOVE towards God

B. And here in 3:8, the Lord says “How shall you return to Me?”

            1. “Consider this: You’ve been robbing Me”

C. You see, the HEARTS of the people were HELD BACK to the SAME DEGREE

            1. Their TITHES and OFFERINGS were

D. The word TITHE simply means “TENTH”

            1. The 1st 10% of EVERY DOLLAR I receive is the Lord’s

E. Therefore if I DON’T TITHE;

            1. I’m actually ROBBING GOD

F. In giving my TITHE, on the other hand

            1. I’m sanctifying the REMAINING 90%

                        a. (Which still belongs to God, I’m just His STEWART over the 90%)

G. Tithing acknowledges in a very real way, what James said:

James 1:17

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

“It’s amazing how SMALL a dollar LOOKS at the GROCERY STORE; but how BIG it looks when I’m about to put it in the OFFERING PLATE!”         – James McDonald

H. The bible tells us in Leviticus 27:30 that the TITHE is the LORD’S

            1. To which some people OBJECT ——–‘LEGALISM’!

            2. ‘As N.T. believers, we are FREE from the LAW’

                        a. And YES we are

                        b. But TITHING began well before the LAW was ever given

I. In Genesis 14;

            1. Abraham gave a TITHE to MELCHIZEDEK;

            2. A picture or TYPE of the LORD JESUS CHRIST

J. In O.T. times, TITHING was actually about 23%

            1. 10% tithe to the Levites

            2. 10% tithe to the LORD directly

            3. 10% tithe every 3 years to the POOL

            4. In addition, 1/6th of ALL crops were to be given to the LORD

Matthew 23:23
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone.

K. The Scribes and Pharisees were METICULOUS about TITHING

            1. And Jesus CONFIRMED that they SHOULD TITHE (1/10)

            2. Not only did it PRECEDE the LAW, but it was CONFIRMED by Christ

‘BRING ALL THE TITHES into the STOREHOUSE’ Mal. 3:10

A. Notice that ALL the TITHES were to be bought

            1. Someone once said, “well it really doesn’t matter HOW MUCH you give”

            2. “You know, all God is really looking at is your HEART”

            3. “It doesn’t matter if you give 3% or 20%, it’s your heart”

B. But that’ NOT what God said is it?

            1. God said BRING ALL THE TITHES in – ALL 10%

C. Someone one said, well is that 10% off the GROSS or NET of my pay check?

            1. For most people because they don’t tithe at all;

            2. If they’d tithe 10% off the NET that be 100% more than they were giving

D. Notice also God DIRECTS that the WHOLE TITHE should be brought –

            1. Into the STOREHOUSE

E. That is, we are to TITHE to the LOCAL CHURCH where we are being shepherded & FED

            1. If CCB is your CHURCH—- Then your STOREHOUSE is to be CCB

            2. If you attend somewhere else, then YOUR TITHE BELONGS to that ministry

F. It’d be like going down to PIZZA HUT for LUNCH;

            1. And when you’re done, getting up and walking over to SUBWAY to pay

            2. Your TITHE belongs in your LOCAL CHURCH where you are being FED

F. You may give an OFFERING ELSEWHERE (anything above your 10% tithe = offerings)

            1. But your FULL 10% TITHE belongs @ your LOCAL STOREHOUSE

            2. Isn’t that what Malachi 3:10 says?

                        a. God says is you want to be BLESSED, here’s how you do it

G. The TITHE is NOT to be GIVEN RANDOMLY

            1. For example if you have a HURTING NEIGHBOR;

            2. You can’t take your TITHE & give it to them to help them out – belongs in storehouse

H. You CAN’T take your tithe and GIVE it to KSLW or one of the TEACHERS on RADIO;

            1. You CAN give an OFFERING to OUTSIDE MINISTRIES

            2. Or to HELP YOUR NEIGHBOR

            3. But the 1st FULL 10% BELONGS to God & is to be given to your LOCAL CHURCH

I. Another area I’ve seen people MISAPPROPRIATE their TITHE is by;

            1. PURCHASING various items for the CHURCH

            2. God does not give you the AUTHORITY to do that

J. At other times, I’ve seen people give away their GARBAGE to the local CHURCH

            1. For say a GARAGE SALE, and call that their TITHE

            2. Again, God doesn’t want our GARBAGE anymore than we want it;

                        a. And we can’t justify our SPRING CLEANING as our TITHE

K. I truly believe that the LOCAL CHURCH has been greatly restricted because –

            1. So many people today have been given to ALL SORTS of CAUSES…

                        a. RATHER than to their LOCAL CHURCH

L. In the book of ACTS, we see the local church HELPING the POOR;

            1. Sending out missionaries, and PLANTING new churches

            2. Those who were sent out were SUBMITTED & ACCOUNTABLE to the church

M. Another aspect of OUR STEWARDSHIP that God requires of us is that it’s our 1st FRUITS

            1. God REQUIRES us to WRITE out our 10% TITHE CHECK right off the TOP

N. Now the temptation is to PAY ALL OF OUR BILLS 1st;

            1. THEN IF anything is LEFT OVER, decide HOW MUCH / if anything to TITHE

            2. BUT….NOTICE what God says in –

Malachi 3:10   Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it.

A. THROUGHOUT the Word, GOD SAYS:

            1. “TRUST ME!”

B. BUT…in the area of GIVING, He says:

            1. “PROVE ME!!!!”

“Bring Me your tithes and offerings and see if I won’t bless you in such a way that you can’t even contain it! – Prove me in this!”

C. One of the GREATEST PROBLEMS in the lives of so many believers today is;

            1. Their LACK of FAITH that GOD WILL PROVIDE

D. And the RESULT is PEOPLE get nervous and STOP TITHING

            1. In fact for some people their ECONOMIC status doesn’t even change;

            2. But just in the PROSPECT that they may not have ENOUGH if they tithe;

                        a. They STOP GIVING

E. But again, remember if we STOP TITHING we are ROBBING from God

            1. Just so you know WE TITHE TOO!!!

            2. This is just as much my RESPONSIBILITY as YOURS

F. DO YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENS when you STOP TITHING?

            1. Your money doesn’t GO AS FAR as it used to

            2. YOU NEVER HAVE ENOUGH

HAGGAI 1

A. In the book Haggai, the people of Israel had been freed from Babylon approximately -

1. 16 years earlier by their political leader, Zerubbabel & Joshua  the high priest

B. These people has traveled several hundred miles back to Jerusalem

1. And immediately set about doing what the Lord had commissioned them to do:

a. They began to build the TEMPLE

b. The place where God’s name could be PRAISED

c. The place they could assemble to HONOR HIS NAME

C. They began to LAY the FOUNDATION;

            1. But became intimidated by their enemies and divided by internal contention

D. So for 16 years, the WORK SAT IDLE

            1. Weeds began to grow on the FOUNDATION as the people gave up on the project,

            2. And INSTEAD TURNED to the construction of THEIR OWN HOMES

E. Haggai’s basic message is:

“Maybe you were once excited about the things of God, excited about serving the Lord but have since grown weary by the squabbling of God’s people or the attacks of the enemy. So you have decided to concentrate on your own life instead, tending to your own little world. This message is for you! For no matter how long it’s been, Haggai states that it’s never too late to get going again!”

Haggai 1:2-6
2
“Thus speaks the Lord of hosts, saying: ‘This people says, “The time has not come, the time that the Lord’s house should be built.” ‘ ”

A. Notice that the people WEREN’T SAYING: that the Lord’s temple shouldn’t be built

            1. They were simply saying that, due to the ENEMIES & CONTENTION –

                        a. “We’ll get to it LATER”

                        b. “We’ll do it sometime, maybe even soon, but not RIGHT NOW”

B. That’s one of the ENEMY’S favorite tactics –

            1. “I’m NOT saying NO, I’m just saying ‘LATER’

            2. Next MONTH, next YEAR,

C. AFTER you buy YOUR NEW HOME

            1. Develop your CAREER

            2. Have your FAMILY

            3. PAY OFF all your DEBTS….

“THEN YOU CAN REALLY ENGAGE YOURSELF IN DOING AND GIVING WHAT THE LORD HAS CALLED YOU TO DO.”

D. It’s never the WRONG TIME to do the WRITE THING

            1. What has God called YOU TO DO?

            2. Where has GOD called YOU to SERVE and GIVE of YOURSELF?

E. Procrastination is what the ENEMY will use to hinder you from doing it

            1. He WONT SAY: “IT’S NOT WORTH IT”

            2. He’ll just say: “DO IT LATER”

3 Then the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet, saying, 4 Is it time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, and this temple to lie in ruins?”

A. How is it that you have time to PANEL your own houses;

            1. But NOT to DO what I have CALLED YOU TO DO?

B. Some of your homes are in PERFECT ORDER

            1. All the walls are painted the right colors, closets in perfect order

            2 . And YET you are NOT DOING what God has CALLED you to do

C. We’ll LORD, it’s not that I’m saying “NO”, I’m just saying “LATER”

            1. “As soon as I get my FENCE PAINTED”

            2. “As soon as I FINISH MY BASEMENT”

            3. “As soon as I get the KITCHEN REMODELED, then I’ll be right there to SERVE”

D. PROCRASTINATION is the PRIMARY tool that the ENEMY will use

            1. To KEEP YOU from DOING what God has CALLED you to do

5 Now therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts: “Consider your ways!

A. “Consider” is a COMMAND the LORD – stated 5 times throughout Haggai

            1. Consider your ways- what you SPEND your MONEY on and TIME doing

            2. SEARCH YOUR HEART

B. Now here’s the RESULT of a SELF-CENTERED, DISOBEDIENT LIFE:

            1. GOD says:
6 “You have sown much (you’re always working- not enough hours in a week), and bring in little (your paycheck is never enough to cover your bills); You eat, but do not have enough; You drink, but you are not filled with drink (you’re never satisfied); You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; And he who earns wages, Earns wages to put into a bag with holes.”

A. When you DON’T TITHE,

            1. You CAN’T WORK enough hours to stay ahead of your CREDITORS

B. When you DON’T SERVE the LORD;

            1. There is NEVER enough TIME in the WEEK to get all YOUR projects done

C. It’s like after all that HARD WORK, you’ve just put your money in pockets full of HOLES

            1. IT’S NOT THE MORE YOU KEEP THE MORE YOU SAVE

            2. It’s not: the MORE STINGY you can be the MORE that YOU WILL HAVE

D. God has NEVER PROMISED TO BLESS the GREEDY MAN

            1. God has ALWAYS PROMISED TO BLESS the GENEROUS MAN!

ILLUSTRATION:

 One of the most amazing ‘rags to riches’ stories is the life of RG LeTourneau, as told in his biography “Mover of Mountains and Men”.  LeTourneau began his career in obscurity in Stockton, California, where his first job was transporting earth to level out farmland.  His frustrations with moving dirt drove him to find a better, more efficient way.  In 1922 he constructed the first all-welded scraper that was lighter, stronger and less expensive than any other machines.

As a multi-millionaire, LeTourneau gave 90% of his profit to God’s work and kept only 10% for himself. A special friend of Billy Graham, in his early days, LeTourneau designed a portable dome building intended for Graham crusades. He also founded a university that is thriving to this day.

LeTourneau said that the money came in faster than he could give it away.  LeTourneau was convinced that he could not out-give God.  ”I shovel it out,” he would say, “and God shovels it back, but God has a bigger shovel.”

Many people see Letourneau as one of the most influential people of the past hundred years. As the father of the modern earthmoving industry, he was responsible for 299 inventions.  These inventions included the bulldozer, scrapers of all sorts, dredgers, portable cranes, rollers, dump wagons, bridge spans, logging equipment, mobile sea platforms for oil exploration, the electric wheel and many others.  He introduced into the earthmoving and material handling industry the rubber tire, which today is almost universally accepted. He invented and developed the Electric Wheel. His life’s verse was –

Matthew 6:33: “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.”

CONCLUSION:

A. Let me ask you this morning –

            1. What are you SEEKING FIRST?

B. Are you seeking the KINGDOM of God

            1. Are you HONORING the LORD with the 1st FRUITS of your POSSESSIONS?

C. Are you BRING IN ALL THE TITHE to the STOREHOUSE?

            1. Or are you ROBBING GOD?

D. What about in your SERVICE?

            1. Are you serving the LORD?

            2. Or are you CONSUMED with FIXING up your OWN HOUSE?

Only one life to live; twill soon shall past; only what’s done for Christ will last.

E. Well, I’ve done my part;

            1. I’ve delivered to you the message God has put on my heart

F. Now it’s YOUR TURN

            1. Will you RESPOND in OBEDIENCE to the LORD who SAVED YOU?

            2. I pray that WE will

“Drawing Away” (Daily Devotions 2.22.11)

S – Scripture

Mark 1:35-38 (NASB)
In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and was praying there. 36 Simon and his companions searched for Him; 37 they found Him, and said* to Him, “Everyone is looking for You.” 38 He said* to them, “Let us go somewhere else to the towns nearby, so that I may preach there also; for that is what I came for.”

O – Observation

Jesus was no man pleaser. Even though He came with the specific mission to die on the cross of Calvary for the souls of men, His goal was never to ‘live to fulfill the will of  His followers.’ When the disciples got up one morning, Jesus was gone – no note, no explanation, He had simply left them to seek strength from His Heavenly Father in prayer. Prayer is the key to personal power and the ability to stay focused on ‘God’s calling’. Even Jesus who was fully God, needed that daily intimate time of prayer. When the disciples found Christ, they said “everyone is looking for You.” Sort of sounds like a guilt trip by the disciples and a vain effort to get Christ to worry about what man thinks – “You need to be more concerned about being there for people than wasting your time in prayer and doing the will of Him who sent You.” Very much the same priority that Martha had verses her sister Mary – Working for God is more important that your personal walk with Him. Jesus didn’t answer them. Jesus wasn’t in the least bit concerned about what they or anyone thought of Him. His objective was not to impress them so that they’d follow Him. His goal wasn’t popularity, it was simply to focus on the task that His Father had given Him. Jesus also needed to take care of His own spiritual walk and relation with His Father. Nothing in life was more important to Him than His relationship with His Father. Jesus did not surrender to the fear of man, He simply told His disciples “let’s go somewhere else”. He left the people who were wanting His time and attention and He just moved on – that’s what ultimately led to His ability to say ”It is finished” while hanging on the cross of Calvary. He didn’t come to ‘do everything’, He just came to fulfill the will of His Father upon His life. That was success. His job was not to impress or even meet the needs of man, it was to glorify His Father.

A – Application

Jesus today, You are my mentor! I want to be more like You and walk in the fear of God alone. My biggest struggle as a pastor is to daily wrestle over the fear and personal goals of man. I must be given exclusively to what God has called me to do. Man has not called me to preach, it is not man who I live for, and it will not be a man (any church member) who I will one day stand before at the Bema Seat and give an account of my life to. My goal and my objective today is to be fully given to a love relationship with my Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ my Lord. My focus today must not be upon the demands of men or what people think that I should be doing with my limited time as a Pastor. My calling is to be given to prayer and the Word of God, and then ‘let the chips fall where they may.” If people are offended by my unavailability, so be it – even Jesus wasn’t always available. I must focus on being available to God and doing the work of the ministry that Christ has set me apart to.

P – Prayer

Jesus, make me more like You. Help me to see today what priorities that You have given me. Thank You that Your yoke is easy and Your burden is light. Thank You that You have not called me to produce fruit, but simply to abide in the vine. And as I abide in You, I will think with Your mind, seek to accomplish Your plans and dwell in Your peace. Today I pray that I would be given to prayer and to the ministry of Your Word. Guard my mind from the fear of man, and the modern form of what America has made the church: programs, business meetings and committee meetings. Set my heart upon the work that You alone have given me. May the work of the ministry never come between me and my walk with You and may it always be a joy to serve You. I pray that You will always be #1 in my life, not ministry, not people, not anything but just You Lord. Teach me to walk and live in the fear of the Lord, and then I will not become fearful of the words of man. Thank You for my calling as a Pastor, may I glorify You today in all that I do as I live for You. Amen.

“Everything has a Season” (Daily Devotions 2.21.11)

S – Scripture

Numbers 9:21-23 (NASB)
21 If sometimes the cloud remained from evening until morning, when the cloud was lifted in the morning, they would move out; or if it remained in the daytime and at night, whenever the cloud was lifted, they would set out. 22 Whether it was two days or a month or a year that the cloud lingered over the tabernacle, staying above it, the sons of Israel remained camped and did not set out; but when it was lifted, they did set out. 23 At the command of the Lord they camped, and at the command of the Lord they set out; they kept the Lord’s charge, according to the command of the Lord through Moses.

O – Observation

God had set His children free from the bondage of the land of Egypt. With a mighty hand and a powerful demonstration, God destroyed the power of Egypt over His people. At the hand of Moses, the LORD began to lead His people towards the promised land. It was a land that flowed with milk and honey, yet God had to prepare His people to receive the blessing of all that He had for them. The direct trip from Egypt to the land of Cana was only a few days, yet God took them on a path that lasted 40 years as He prepared them for all that He had for them. God led them by His Spirit in days, months and years. As God led them, sometimes they would spend only a few days in one location as God prepared them for the next stage. At other times, God might have them remain stationary for years. Only God knew His plans and His timing was perfect as He prepared His people for their future.

A – Application

My LORD has also set me free from the bondage of my ‘Egypt’. Paul says in Romans, that my flesh was my old master, but now in Christ, I am a new creation and old things have passed away – all things have been made new. Daily I am being led by God’s Spirit! Everyday of my life takes me one step closer to my eternal home. Whether God leads me for a few days in one spot, or several years, it’s all a work of God’s Spirit as He completes the work that He has begun in my life. Life is filled with trials, and every trial brings growth. I can’t rush the trials, I can’t avoid the trials, all that I can do is realize that God has an appointed time for me within each trial. My job is not to run or seek to escape from my hardships, but rather what I must do is ask God – “Lord, what do You want me to learn from this trial?” Or, “Lord, is there an area of my life that You are seeking control over?” “What must I do Lord, anything?” Often I have found that God doesn’t show me why I’m in a trial, but I always realize that, ” God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” I may not always realize why I’m going through what I’m going through, but I must always remember that God has a purpose for it in my life. So often I have prayed that God would deliver me FROM a trial, when in fact I have come to see how often He has chosen to deliver me THOUGH my trials. Some last a day. Some last a week. And some never seem to end – Yet God is preparing me through these times for the great and awesome things that are to come! Glory to His name! If I’d have realized what He had in store for me, I’d have trusted Him more throughly!

P – Prayer

Father today, I surrender to be led of Your Spirit. Keep me from ever getting ahead of You or failing to move when you call me. May I always be sensitive to Your leading, guiding and directing in my life. Teach me to be thankful in and through all things. May I never wait to praise You until after my trial is over, but may my heart be filled with thanksgiving in my trials, knowing that no test may last one day longer than You allow. I love You and surrender a new to You today. I love You! Amen

“Fruit of Repentance” (Daily Devotions 2.19.11)

S – Scripture

Acts 26:19-20 (NASB)
19 “So, King Agrippa, I did not prove disobedient to the heavenly vision,
20 but kept declaring both to those of Damascus first, and also at Jerusalem and then throughout all the region of Judea, and even to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, performing deeds appropriate to repentance.

O – Observation

The Apostle Paul was disliked and hated by many. In fact, at this point in his live, ‘modern success values’ would have said “Paul you should have written several best seller books by now and be the pastor of a mega church.” But that’s not necessarily the evidence of success that God uses. Paul was what many today would consider a failure. He was hated by many and the Jewish leaders were seeking to put him to death. At the end of Paul’s life, he ends up in Rome, dying alone with only Luke and a few earthly possession. Why was this? How could this be with such a man of God? All because Paul preached the simple message of faith and repentance towards God – ‘turn from your sin, repent and put your faith in Jesus Christ’ was Paul’s message. That message was not popular then, and it’s still not a popular message today. Jesus said in Matthew 7, “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.” According to Christ, the vast majority of people today will perish. Paul kept his message simple, “If you repent and put your trust in Christ, then your life will bear the fruit of repentance.” People will be able to look at your life and see the changes that God has made in you since you became a believer. Paul is stating the same thing that Christ stated – “If you are truly saved, then your life will reflect it through the way you live.” Paul didn’t live in the life he lived in following Christ to be saved. Rather he lived the life he lived – in obedience to Christ, because he was saved. Our works don’t save us, they merely prove what we really believe in. True salvation will always produce the fruit of righteousness.

A – Application

I must continue to stand strong and ‘Preach the Word’! God has not called me to make friends, be popular or to write books – simply preach the message of  ‘repentance and faith towards Jesus Christ’. Some will respond, but many others wont. I must never become consumed with what others say and do. I must simply be wholly given to the Preaching of the Word of God

P – Prayer

Father today, set my eyes and heart fully upon the calling YOu have put upon my life. Make me a better preacher. May I never draw back from preaching the truth to appease man. I love You and seek the boldness of Your Spirit as I speak the truth in love today. Amen

“Jettisoning My Load” (Daily Devotions 2.20.11)

S – Scripture

Acts 27:18 (NASB)
The next day as we were being violently storm-tossed, they began to jettison the cargo;

O – Observation

The Apostle Paul was on a boat headed for Rome. Before they set sail, the Lord gave Paul a ‘word of knowledge’ – encouraging them not to set sail. But neither the sea-captain, nor the Centurion paid any attention to Paul’s words. So they set sail with a fully loaded boat, and 276 passengers. As they began to sail a Northeastern storm rose up and threatened to destroy them and their ship. The men did their best to try to sail around or through the storm, but the more they struggled, the worse thing became. Finally, after all their efforts had failed, they began to jettison all their cargo. They threw over-board everything that they could get their hands on in a vain effort to save the ship. Finally they ended up tossing the grain overboard and cut the anchors, allowing the storm to drive them towards land.

A – Application

It’s amazing how precious the possessions of this world appear when life is well. Things in life seem to have so much allure when a person is young and healthy. Life seems like it is ours for the taking, and so many people (even Christians) can become consumed with personal wealth and material possessions. It’s funny how our values change when our health fails, our marriage is in trouble, or our family falls apart. At the end of a man’s life, nothing he has accumulated will ever bring him comfort. When times are hard, that’s when you find out where true value belongs.

P – Prayer

Father, today remind me of the true values in life! Help me to jettison everything out of my life that will not benefit me throughout eternity:  relationships, possessions and  activities. Thank You that You have already empowered me to jettison from my life, everything that is not the ‘best’ – things that simply take my time, money and energy and have no eternal benefit. I surrender my ‘ship’ to Your spring cleaning. Help me to be open to all that You would desire to jettison from my life! Amen.

“Bound to Christ” (Daily Devotions 2.13.11)

S – Scripture

But I do not consider my life of any account as dear to myself, so that I may finish my course and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify solemnly of the gospel of the grace of God. Acts 20:24

O – Observation

The Apostle Paul had devoted his life to fulfilling the call of God upon his life. He did not consider his life as dear to himself. In other words, he did not reserve any rights to his life, but rather he devoted himself totally to God so that he might finish the course given to him by God. Paul realized that he could never finish his course if he restricted God’s authority over his life. Had he counted his goals and desires as being dear to him, he would have had two masters. Jesus said you will either love one and hate the other, or you will cling to one and despise the other. Paul realized early on that his only goal in life must be that of fulfilling the call of God upon his life, and that would only happen through total self-denial.

A – Application

Fulfilling the call of God upon my life is a day by day process. If I want to fulfill the call of God upon my life today, then I must live today in total self-denial. The only way that I will hear Jesus say to me “Well done, good and faithful servant,” is to live full-out for Him now. I must never count my life as dear to me. I must never reserve or restrict God from having total authority over every area of my life. He totally died for me, so that I might totally live for Him!

P – Prayer

Father I pray today that You might search me and try me and see if I have reserved or restricted any area of my life from Your total control. Today, again I chose to give up every right to my life and with great joy, I chose to follow You alone! I surrender my life to You today so that I might live a life that brings You glory. I love you LORD! Amen

“Living Bold” (Daily Devotions 2.11.11)

S – Scripture

And the Lord said to Paul in the night by a vision, “Do not be afraid any longer, but go on speaking and do not be silent; for I am with you, and no man will attack you in order to harm you, for I have many people in this city.” And he settled there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them. Acts 18:9-11

O – Observation

The Apostle Paul was a true man of God. He was led by the Spirit of God and he obeyed the Lord. Whether God brought him to a city for a few days or several months. Paul was not his own, he simply fulfilled the call of God upon his life by following the Lord from city to city. Paul never did a demographic study or attempted to be a man pleaser, nor did Paul ever run when the going got tough – he simply yielded his life to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Paul simply taught the word of God and did not allow the people’s response (good or bad) to sway him. Whether he was well received or even hated and persecuted, Paul went from city to city as God led him.

A – Application

I must guard my mind from what people think as I live my life in obedience to the call of God upon my life. My mind, my goals, my thoughts, must always remain on pleasing the Lord. I cannot allow the standards of modern man to become my measuring stick to success. The key to success is ‘determining where God has called me to serve Him, and then simply abiding in the center of His will’. Whether a few months or many years, God has much more to accomplish through my life. My goals and life’s ambition must always be to please my LORD. If God leaves me right where I am for the rest of my life, that is because that is where He has chosen to do an even greater work!

P – Prayer

“Father today I pray that I would be totally consumed in pleasing You! Make my heart to dwell in the center of Your will. Whether the enemy comes and tries to tempt me away from You, may I always realize that true joy and contentment comes from living for You! Give me a heart that seeks to please and glorify You alone. Close my ears to both the praises and complaints of men. Cause my heart to be so captivated by doing Your will, that I can think of nothing else. I love You!” Amen.

Pastor Pete’s Study Notes 11/28/10

“True Love”

1 John 2:8-11

 8 Again, a new commandment I write to you, which thing is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining.

 A. John now adds a ‘NEW COMMANDMENT’

            1. This was a command given by Jesus to His disciples in -

 John 15:9-17

“As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. 10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. 11 These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. 12 This is My commandment, (now here it is) that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. 14 You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. 15 No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. 17 These things I command you, that you love one another.

 B. In John 13:34-35, Jesus Himself called this a ‘NEW COMMANDMENT’

 John 13:34-35       A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

 C. The Apostle John had seen Jesus with his own eyes

            1. He’d seen Jesus offer up His own life, for the sake of others

 “Jesus’ Love is true Love”

 D. And John says that the TRUE LOVE is not only seen in Christ, but in His followers

            1. That is, those who BELIEVE in Christ, will also display His love

  “If the true light of Jesus is shining in our hearts, then His love will be in us, and darkness will be gone.”     -Thomas Hale

 E. When we receive Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior;

            1. The darkness is passing away

            2. And the TRUE LIGHT of God’s LOVE begins to shine

 F. Sort of interesting to note here that the ‘darkness is PASSING AWAY’

            1. Just as it takes time for our eyes to ADJUST to light when we come out of the dark;

            2. So too, it takes time to adjust to the LIGHT of GOD’S LOVE

                        a. As we’re ADJUSTING, we’re actually GROWING IN HIS LOVE!

 G. In Verses 9-11, John now CONTRASTS between:

1. LOVE that is FALSE;

            2. And LOVE that is TRUE

3. Sort of a BAROMETER TEST

9 He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now.

 A. In other words:

1. The person who claims to be a CHRISTIAN;

a. Yet HATES HIS BROTHER…Is still in DARKNESS

b. They are NOT REALLY SAVED

 B. Now some people might say:

1. “Well, I DON’T HATE my brother/sister/spouse/neighbor…”

            2. “I just don’t like them”

 C. Maybe that was you RIGHT NOW?

            1. May just now in your mind, God put somebody’s face in front of you…

                        a. And you just JUSTIFIED your HATRED by calling it something else?

 D. We’ll let’s see if that’s true, based on what the word ‘HATE’ here means:

 ‘HATE’ : “To detest or despise, especially to persecute.”

Withholding of LOVE – (Can be INWARD or OUTWARD)

Refusing to TALK to them

Desire for HARM

Bitterness/ resentment / anger

Flying off the handle at the mention of the person’s name –“I’m not angry at….!!!!”

***OFTEN Hatred may display itself in strong emotion, but not necessarily

Malicious, un-justifiable feelings towards others

Whether towards the INNOCENT, or by mutual animosity

Ever been HATED by someone & you didn’t even know they were mad at you?

Opposed to both the love of NATURAL AFFECTION & Godly love

Webster’s New World Dictionary:

 “To have strong feeling of dislike or ill will for or towards; To loath; To despise; To dislike; wish to avoid; shrink from. To look down upon with great contempt; feelings of malice; to detest; disgust; abhorrence.”

 The opposite of LOVE – diametrically opposed

Look up LOVE and you see the ANT. Of HATE

Look up HATE and you see the ant. Of LOVE

 E. Reminds me of what Jesus said in –

 Luke 16:13   No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”

 F. “You can’t say that you LOVE GOD;

            1. And yet HATE your BROTHER

 G. LOVE and HATE cannot CO-EXIST w/in the SAME HEART

            1. You’ll either be given to LOVE

            2. Or you will be DOMINATED by HATE

 H. Jesus talks about  a man HATING his brother in -

 Matthew 5:21-26
21
“You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of hell fire. 23 Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. 25 Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are on the way with him, lest your adversary deliver you to the judge, the judge hand you over to the officer, and you be thrown into prison. 26 Assuredly, I say to you, you will by no means get out of there till you have paid the last penny.

 I. A lot of times, HATRED – CONTEMPT – RESENTMENT is:

1. The DIRECT CONSEQUENCE of UN-FORGIVENESS

 J. At one point, a person FEELS as though they were WRONGED by SOMEBODY: (maybe)

            1. Maybe a PARENT,

a. “You weren’t there for ME”

b. “you never showed any interest in my life”

c. “You always seemed to FAVOR my brother…sister…”

i. And it’s produced RESENTMENT, bitterness, un-forgiveness in you

 K. Maybe you were WRONGED by SIBLING,

            1. “Mom and dad always paid more attention to you, than any of us!”

            2. “You stole my boy friend / girl friend”

            3. She/he was always better at something

 L. Maybe its resentment towards a FRIEND / another CHURCH member

            1. They treated you WRONG/ UN-FAIR

            2. Un-kind

            3. Disliked by them

M. Maybe the REASON this morning you CAN’T BE FILLED with GOD’S LOVE is because;

            1. You are BITTER towards you SPOUSE…

a. “You never loved me, you’re never kind, you always treat me so bad”

N. What about BITTERNESS or RESENTMENT towards GOD!

                        a. “My life is such a joke”

                        b. “Why didn’t God give me better looks, better health, better spouse”

                        c. “My life is so hard, God must get a real charge out of my problems”

 O. TRUE or NOT, when a PERSON feels that they’ve BEEN WRONGED…

            1. WITHOUT the LOVE of CHRIST in their HEART…

            2. They FIRST WONT FORGIVE the WRONG DOER (even a perceived wrong)

 “Then what happens is that UN-FORGIVENESS produces BITTERNESS; Which ultimately ends up DEFILING their RELATIONSHIP with GOD.”

 P. Some of you may be STRUGGLING TREMENDOUSLY SPIRITUALLY;

            1. And it all REVOLVES back to HARBORING UN-FORGIVENESS

 Q. When we COME INTO THE LIGHT;

            1. We KNOW that we are in the LIGHT –

a. When God enables us to FORGIVE those who sin against us

 R. MANY PEOPLE claim that at one point in their life they CAME INTO THE LIGHT;

1. There was a time when they PRAYED A PRAYER…

2. But they NEVER REALLY GOT SAVED

                        a. They NEVER really CAME INTO the LIGHT

 S. They may have had an INTELLECTUAL EXPERIENCE with God:

            1. Heard the Gospel and intellectually received Christ

            2. But they never TRULY CAME INTO a personal RELATIONSHIP with Christ

 T. And as John says here, the MANIFESTATION or EVIDENCE of a FALSE CONVERT is:

            1. The PERSON who HATES/ person who CANNOT / WILL NOT FORGIVE

 U. And the EVIDENCE that they are NOT in the LIGHT;

1. Is DEMONSTRATED by their HATRED for their BROTHER

 V. HATRED for your BROTHER/SISTER is:

1. NOT an indication of  BACK SLIDING;

            2. But rather of NO SALVATION AT ALL

 W. John says that person was born in darkness, and remains in darkness even until now

            1. They simply never were saved at ANY POINT in their life

 X. UN-FORGIVENESS IS A CRUEL TASKMASTER!

            1. Concerning UN-FORGIVENESS, somebody once said:

 “Un-forgiveness is like drinking poison and expecting your enemy to die.”

 “I refuse to give any control over my life by harboring un-forgiveness in my heart towards them!”

 THE MODEL PRAYER

 Matthew 6:9-15
9 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

 Y. Pretty serious REQUIREMENTS from God!

            1. He who CANNOT FORGIVE their DEBTORS

            2. God promises that NEITHER will HE FORGIVE their DEBTS

 Z. As John is describing here in 1 John 2 –

            1. The ABILITY/WILLINGNESS to forgive other people is a –

2. DECLARATION that you are WALKING in the LIGHT

            a. And the TRUTH IS IN YOU!

 Z1. However on the CONTRAST;

            1. He who HATES his BROTHER (evidence that you hate is in your un-forgiveness)

            2. And REFUSES to FORGIVE him his DEBT…is walking proof that…

                        a. That he is UNSAVED

 Matthew 7:13-27
13
“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. 15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them. 21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ 24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”

 “Not everyone who talking about heaven is going there.”

 Z2. That’s why I’m lingering on this point…(REMEMBER I’m talking to more than CCB)

            1. I’m pressing you by the power of God’s Holy Word—

a. Search your heart & be assured that you really are saved -

 Z3. You really have NOTHING TO LOSE, but EVERYTHING to GAIN;

            1. If you search your heart and find HATRED –

                        a. You could get SAVED TODAY

            2. If you search your heart and find LOVE;

                        a. Well then you have the ASSURANCE of ETERNAL LIFE!!!

10 He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him.

 A. If you are a living, breathing, walking display of GOD’S LOVE;

            1. Then you will have no occasion to STUMBLE yourself

            2. And NEITHER will you STUMBLE ANYONE else

 B. He who ABIDES in the LIGHT will ACTIVELY SEEK to keep from STUMBLING others

            1. The man who abides in GOD’S LOVE…

            2. Will NOT use his LIBERTY to give an OCCASION to STUMBLE others

 1 Corinthians 6:12

All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

 1 Corinthians 10:23

All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify.

 1 Corinthians 8:9-13

But beware lest somehow this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to those who are weak. 10 For if anyone sees you who have knowledge eating in an idol’s temple, will not the conscience of him who is weak be emboldened to eat those things offered to idols? 11 And because of your knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? 12 But when you thus sin against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. 13 Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never again eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble.

 C. Now that’s TRUE LOVE;

            1. Even though we may feel that we have the PERSONAL LIBERTY to

                        a. Partake in various areas…

                        b. If we know that it will stumble a brother…

                                    i. LOVE says – “Then I will never do that again”

 ILLUSTRATION:

Charles Spurgeon used to smoke tobacco during his years of preaching and he thought nothing of it until one day he walked past his favorite tobacco shop and saw a sign posted stating “Players Cigarettes…the choice of C. H. Spurgeon”. After that, Spurgeon gave up smoking so that he would never again stumble anyone.”

 B. That’s what LOVE looks like

            1. “I’m not going to use my liberties to stumble someone w/ a weak conscience”

 C. Let me ADD….

            1. That INCLUDES what you POST of FACEBOOK & TWITTER & emails

Romans 14:12-23

 So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. 13 Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother’s way. 14 I know and am convinced by the Lord Jesus that there is nothing unclean of itself; but to him who considers anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean. 15 Yet if your brother is grieved because of your food, you are no longer walking in love. Do not destroy with your food the one for whom Christ died. 16 Therefore do not let your good be spoken of as evil; 17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. 18 For he who serves Christ in these things is acceptable to God and approved by men. 19 Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another. 20 Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All things indeed are pure, but it is evil for the man who eats with offense. 21 It is good neither to eat meat nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles or is offended or is made weak. 22 Do you have faith? Have it to yourself before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves. 23 But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith; for whatever is not from faith is sin.

11 But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

 “The darkness of sin, always makes men blind. Satan wants to blind you. He doesn’t want you to see his schemes. Above all, he doesn’t want you to see Jesus.”

 Conclusion:

 1. But you FACE A DECISION now, Will you RESPOND?

            a. Are you walking in LOVE?

            b. Or have you been SECRETLY HATING your brother?

 2. I’m going to give you time this morning to deal with this issue before God;

            1. You may need to get up and confess your attitude towards someone here

            2. You may need to come forward and kneel at the altar & confess your sin

 3. Or maybe this morning God has CONVICTED your heart & you now realize that-

            1. You aren’t saved

            2. “Behold today is the day of salvation”

4. If God has convicted you of an area of your life;

            1. I’m going to encourage you to deal with it right now

 5. Don’t let this GIFT of GOD’S CONVICTION pass you by!

            1. You have a CHOICE…

a. RESPOND, or grow HARDER

 “Repent of your bitterness & let Him fill you with HIS LOVE!”

The Night is far spent, it’s time to live for Jesus!

My dearly beloved,

How late the hour is in which we live. I exhort in love by the name of the Lord Jesus Christ whom we serve, to rise up from spiritual stupor and live with all your heart, for the King of Kings. Today may be our last opportunity, and what a privilege we have to make an eternal difference in the lives of so many!

In Romans 13:11–14, the Apostle Paul said -

11 And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. 13 Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.

Only one life, ’twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Living for His Glory,

Pastor Pete
